In Q2 of 2021, I completed a complete conversion of a dual engine installation TAMD73P-A 24V with dual steering. This removed the entire EDC system, eliminating dependence on the Volvo Penta ECU. What was retained were the button panels, instruments, alarms and throttles on both steering positions. The fuel pump received a new electronic controller that works in conjunction with a J1939 ECU. The signals from the steering position are transmitted via a DCU (Diesel Control Unit) to the various alarms, circuits (including the reverse gear) and the ECU via the CAN bus protocol.
The components used are from commercial shipping and ensure that the customer can once again rely on reliable engine and reverse gear control. The tuning of the circuits still caused some headaches, but in the end the whole thing runs excellently!
